Dear Community,
It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you that I am no longer actively involved in leading ChainGuardians or its sister entities, including Cryptoverse.
Despite a sense of unfinished business, I leave holding my head high, knowing that I have always acted in the best interests of the people whom I have worked with and our spectacular community. 1 Kings 3:16–28.
It’s crazy to think that it’s been over 5 years since I coined the name ChainGuardians and brought life to a world through the notion of creating a superhero universe to gamify blockchain technologies. If you’ve ever wondered where the name ‘Bitsee’ came from, it is the western pronunciation of ‘BTC’, spelt phonetically. It might sound like a minor point of note, but the first time this principle was created, it took hours of creative energy and thinking. Such is the attention to detail that was invested into incepting the project.
It’s very sad that I will never release the later chapters of Bitsee’s journey. Or my personal favourite character: Lolita. Spoiler alert: she is Bitsee’s sister (as I’m sure some of you will have guessed with the ‘lee/LTC’ ‘Naka/BTC’ connection).
Since Founding ChainGuardians, I pushed forth the notion of starting ChainBoost: a protocol which could supplement ChainGuardians, in order to present more sustainable inflow. This was another hit thanks to the amazing community which supported it. It was very important, from my perspective, that the protocol address some of the challenges which the industry was facing and thus, the idea of a BoostScore was born. ChainBoost has gone on to help enable a large number of new projects to get started, including my personal favourite: Domi Online.
And of course, there’s Cryptoverse. Over 6M USD was raised off the back of an idea which I had been incubating since 2017; whereby users, VCs, KOLs and more bought LAND (represented as NFTs) as part of the Cryptoverse project. It’s fair to say, as time progressed, that there was a difference in opinion with regards to the direction of the Cryptoverse project. Some leaders wanted to focus on phygital experiences and fashion (including attending events), whereas I always maintained that the importance be placed on the functions of the world itself, including creator tooling.
This leads me to the present day: I leave behind my previous creations under the management of the other Co-Founders, who have their own ideas and vision on the projects’ directions. The recent announcement seems to indicate a number of products are being moved to the DAO — including Cryptoverse. It’s noteworthy that the other Co-Founders retain control over all of the remaining funding from previous sales, including that of Cryptoverse.
Furthermore, as of yet, I have sadly not received any of the team tokens which were vested, which will hamstring my ability to participate within the DAO and support the community in ensuring accountability. As such, the DAO lead and community may wish to evaluate whether the DAO has sufficient budget to deliver any product, especially Cryptoverse, under the new vision as is intended by the remaining Co-Founders, and carefully consider any proposals.
Alas, onwards and upwards! Parting ways from my previous partners paves the way for me to focus my creative energies into a new project. I will not be alone in this venture, as I bring on new partners who believe in my vision for the metaverse; as well as the formation of a new team composed of some familiar faces, with an exceptional amount of know-how and a strong base from which to work towards our vision for the metaverse.
As some of you may know, for their own reasons, a number of individuals have decided their time with the ChainGuardians project is at an end. A large number of them have indicated they wish to join me onto pastures new. Despite there being a number of challenges ahead, we’re optimistic for the future and we have lots of exciting initiatives in the pipeline with respect to the new metaverse and more.
Although my new partners and I hold none of the previous funding or any responsibility for delivery to those who bought LAND, you have my commitment that everyone who is already part of the community who believes in the vision outlined by myself, will have the opportunity to be a part of the new metaverse. In due course, we will advise you on how to obtain your new LAND NFTs at no further cost to you, as well as exciting new opportunities to support the new metaverse and other ventures.
